On Saturday April 23, a team from LHOF volunteered at The Russel Home For Atypical Children and their affiliated thrift store. They were joined by a collaborating group of Lake Highland National Honors Society members. The Russel Home is an operation started by Vantrease Russel on November 13th, 1951, and was the first non-profit residential institution for special needs children in the US(more information at https://russellhome.org/about-us/). The volunteers played a collection of pop songs to the residents while helping out at their lunch, and also helped sort equipment and inventory at the thrift store. Musicians also performed chamber pieces and solos outside the thrift store, helping attract customers and $20 worth of donations for the store in the span of less than an hour. They shoppers immensely enjoyed the music and took many recordings outside the thrift store.
